Supervision for aspiring behavior analysts
We follow the Behavior Analysts Certification Board’s (BACB) purpose for supervision which is to “improve and maintain the behavior-analytic, professional, and ethical repertoires of the trainee and facilitate the delivery of high-quality services to the trainee’s clients.” This includes:
- Monitoring the skills of the trainee throughout the supervised fieldwork
- Developing and communicating performance expectations to the trainee
- Conducting behavioral skills training for the trainee
- Observing the trainee’s performance with clients and delivering feedback
- Modeling technical, professional, and ethical behavior
- Guiding the development of behavioral case conceptualization, problem-solving, and decision-making repertoires
- Reviewing the trainee’s written materials (e.g., behavior programs, data sheets, reports) and delivering related feedback about the products
- Overseeing and evaluating the effects of the trainee’s behavior-analytic service delivery
- Evaluating the effects of supervision throughout the supervised fieldwork
Responsibilities
- Provide direct client care in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements.
- Follow the prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols.
- Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior.
- Assist with parent and caregiver training in line with client’s individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols.
- Effectively communicate with parents and caregivers regarding client progress as instructed by the Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.
- Utilize safe & appropriate handling procedures when working with clients.
- Maintain client confidentiality.
- Assist with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments.
- Assist in preparing client materials as instructed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment.
- Collaborate with treatment team including client, parents and caregivers, outside professionals, Lead Behavioral Technician, ABA Interns, and co-workers.
- Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings.
